Thoughtful quotes: “Think before you assert control” — Martin Zwilling

I was reading a book review and reflection by Martin Zwilling, and this phrase really struck a chord for me.

As a part of the team, leaders have to choose carefully: when we assert control, are we enabling, disabling, steering or blocking our teams?

It is easy to take control, gratify our egos, create a flurry of activity…and actively damage the team, removing initiative, pride, and commitment. On the other hand, judicious coaching can make a huge difference in targeting the right market with the right product at the right time, and build a team which can respond to change, effectively and eagerly.

How much thought are you giving to your directions?
